Product Details

Who says you need a microscope to explore cells? The Cell Exploration Models Bundle from Inside Out Science was designed to help students see, touch, and truly understand how animal, plant, and bacterial cells compare. This bundled set includes three interactive paper models that work together to tell the full story of cell structure and function - making it perfect for lessons focused on prokaryotic vs. eukaryotic cells.

Because the included readings and activities are built around comparison, these models are intentionally sold as a bundle. Students explore what animal and plant cells have in common (and where they differ), then contrast both with a prokaryotic bacterial cell to better understand cell complexity, evolution, and specialization.

What really makes these models shine is how interactive they are. The animal and plant cell models open up to reveal internal organelles, helping students visualize spatial relationships inside the cell. Each also includes a moveable paper slider built into the cell membrane, allowing students to physically model key processes instead of just memorizing them:

  • Animal Cell: Endocytosis and exocytosis
  • Plant Cell: Cellular respiration and photosynthesis

The bacterial cell model rounds out the bundle by providing a clear, approachable look at prokaryotic cell structure, setting the stage for meaningful discussions about cell organization, efficiency, and evolutionary differences.

WHAT'S INCLUDED in this 3-5 DAY CELL EXPLORATION LESSON:

Like all Inside Out Science resources, these models are hands-on, humane, reusable, and classroom-friendly. They’re designed to reduce cognitive overload, support diverse learners, and make complex biology feel manageable - and even fun. If you’ve ever wished students could move molecules, open cells, and see the differences between cell types instead of just labeling diagrams, this Cell Exploration Models Bundle delivers exactly that—from the Inside Out.

TEACHERS LOVE IOS DISSECTION MODELS, HERE'S WHY:

❤️ Olivia H. says, "This resource is perfect for students to practice with before doing a dissection, as well as referring back to after dissections. I also like the option to use this resource for super squeamish students or when the budget is tight. I could not recommend this product more!"

❤️ Courtney C. says, "I love this for our forensic pathology unit! We are able to discuss anatomy and we do not need to use preserved pigs (for the squeamish students). This is a great resource!"

❤️ Lani B. says, "I can't say enough good things about this resource! We completed this activity before beginning our fetal pig Dissection. It gave students a great idea of what they would expect during the dissection such as placement and orientation. It was extremely successful! Thank you!"

Why teachers are switching to paper dissection models

More and more classrooms are moving toward humane dissection alternatives, and for good reason.

In real classrooms, teachers are running into challenges like:

  • Rising costs: specimens are getting more expensive
  • Inconsistent quality: shipments can arrive damaged, overly preserved, or difficult to work with
  • Limited availability: certain specimens (and even specific sexes) aren’t always available
  • Student hesitation: more students are uncomfortable participating
  • Time and logistics: setup, cleanup, storage, and safety all add up

A more reliable, classroom-friendly approach:

Inside Out Science models keep the hands-on learning, while removing many of the barriers that make traditional dissection challenging. Students can:

  • Explore anatomy in a clear, structured way
  • Build understanding without the mess or unpredictability
  • Participate fully, regardless of comfort level

Just as important, it’s about what students bring into that experience:

For many teachers, it’s not about replacing dissection entirely – it’s about giving students the chance to build confidence before they ever pick up a tool. The end goal being to create a classroom culture rooted in curiosity, care, and respect for the organism – not uncertainty or hesitation.

Whether you’re looking for a frog dissection alternative, an affordable way to do comparative anatomy, or a way to make dissection day more accessible, inclusive, and purposeful for all students, you’re in the right place.
