Product Details

A humane, hands-on way to explore mammalian anatomy—no fur or formaldehyde needed!
Once part of Getting Nerdy’s dissection line, this Vinyl Cat Dissection Model has a new home at Inside Out Science, offering a compassionate, classroom-friendly approach to feline anatomy and physiology. This larger-than-life vinyl cat mirrors our student paper Scienstructable models, giving teachers a durable, reusable way to demonstrate complex organ systems.

Students build their own understanding through the paper lesson, which includes guided readings, differentiated organizers, and color-cut-assemble templates for their own foldable 3-D cat model. Perfect for comparative anatomy units or upper-level life science courses, the lesson highlights skeletal, muscular, digestive, reproductive, and circulatory structures in a clean, engaging format.

Your vinyl cat model ships on perforated sheets and assembles using the included glue dots. Once completed, it adheres securely to the vinyl dissection tray sticker using the included Velcro dots, creating a high-impact demonstration piece you can use year after year. The printed instructions include a link to the video assembly guide for classroom support.

With digital access delivered via email, it’s easy to print, project, or add materials to your LMS.

Humane, high-impact, and built to last, this Vinyl Cat Dissection Model brings mammalian anatomy to life—from the Inside Out.

TEACHERS LOVE IOS DISSECTION MODELS, HERE'S WHY:
❤️ Emily J. says, "I used this with my upper level anatomy students BEFORE we dissected and it made dissection day SO MUCH BETTER! Thank you!"
❤️ Miller Biology says, " used this with my 11th - 12th grade Anatomy and Physiology class the year we were not able to purchase cat specimens. My students enjoyed it and I feel like it was a great use of class time. I would recommend 100%. It is also great for students who don't want to dissect and you need an alternative assignment for."
❤️ Kelli S. says, "I am currently using this with my high school anatomy students this year as we are dissecting cats- this way they can study at home when they are learning remotely! They are really enjoying it so far!!! Thank you so much for putting this together- highly recommend!!"

Why teachers are switching to paper dissection models

More and more classrooms are moving toward humane dissection alternatives, and for good reason.

In real classrooms, teachers are running into challenges like:

  • Rising costs: specimens are getting more expensive
  • Inconsistent quality: shipments can arrive damaged, overly preserved, or difficult to work with
  • Limited availability: certain specimens (and even specific sexes) aren’t always available
  • Student hesitation: more students are uncomfortable participating
  • Time and logistics: setup, cleanup, storage, and safety all add up

A more reliable, classroom-friendly approach:

Inside Out Science models keep the hands-on learning, while removing many of the barriers that make traditional dissection challenging. Students can:

  • Explore anatomy in a clear, structured way
  • Build understanding without the mess or unpredictability
  • Participate fully, regardless of comfort level

Just as important, it’s about what students bring into that experience:

For many teachers, it’s not about replacing dissection entirely – it’s about giving students the chance to build confidence before they ever pick up a tool. The end goal being to create a classroom culture rooted in curiosity, care, and respect for the organism – not uncertainty or hesitation.

Whether you’re looking for a frog dissection alternative, an affordable way to do comparative anatomy, or a way to make dissection day more accessible, inclusive, and purposeful for all students, you’re in the right place.
